In the heart of the Rías Baixas, the city of Pontevedra was born in Roman times on the banks of the river Lérez, but reached its splendour at the beginning of the Renaissance with the discovery of America, as Pontevedra played an important role. Its rich history is reflected in an important artistic heritage that deserves to be discovered.

During the tour, we will visit the monument to the heroes of Pontesampaio, which recalls the Napoleonic wars, the archaeological ruins of San Domingos , the church of La Peregrina and its curious shell shape, an obligatory passage for pilgrims making the Portuguese route to Santiago de Compostela.

The square of A Ferreiría with its typical arcaded buildings where we find the church of San Francisco and its imposing rose window of 5m in diameter, the charming square of A Leña, the church of San Bartolomé, where the patron saint of the city, the Virgin of the O (representation of the pregnant Virgin) is venerated the square of A Verdura with its lively terraces, the Convent of the Apparitions where Sister Lucia, one of the three shepherds of Fatima, lived; the spectacular Santa María la Mayor Church (the most beautiful Renaissance constructions from Galicia. The harmonious square of O Teucro will make this visit an unforgettable memory.

Cambados is a old fishing village with the ruins of Santa María Dozo, San Benito Church & Fefiñanes Palace. Winegrowing is also important, Albariño surely being one of the finest white wines in the world.

Combarro a picturesque town full of granaries and houses almost hanging over the sea.

Optional: cruise along the Arousa or Pontevedra estuary with mussels and wine tasting. This catamaran ride will allow us to know the production of mussels, oysters or scallops.

Soutomaior Castle Gardens A castle-fortress of medieval origin, its garden has been named an “International Garden of Excellence”. With its millenarian chestnut trees, its extensive camellia collection, notable Australian Ferns and trees brought from all over the world, a visit is indispensable for all the botanic lovers.

Our next stop will be in the Pazo Quiñones de León a seventeenth century traditional manor house with period furniture and impressive gardens, French and British in style . This tour will continue in the old town, that combines cobbled streets with nice squares,  where are situated the Oyster market , the ideal place to taste the fresh oysters from Vigo Bay, St. Mary´s Co-Cathedral in neoclassical style with some beautiful mosaics, the Constitution Square where stand out the narrow-fronted houses and arcades or the rúa dos Cesteiros (the Street of the Basketmakers) that features — as its name suggests — many little shops selling local basketwork.

Santa Trega mountain  is the largest site of pre-Roman culture in Galicia, with 2,000 years of history and where we will enjoy stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean.

Opposite, on the other side of the river Miño is Valença do Minho, an attractive border town in Portugal- still confined within the fortress walls.
